If your caravan has an aggregate trailer mass (ATM) of 750–4,500 kilograms, you need a safety certificate before you can sell it.
But getting a certificate doesn’t have to mean waiting at the workshop or a half-day off work.
Our mobile examiners come directly to your location of choice anywhere across the Gold Coast, Brisbane, or Ipswich.
Each inspection takes less than an hour and means you’re legally able to transfer your caravan’s registration.
Selling your caravan shouldn’t be complicated.
And, with our mobile safety certificates, it isn’t.
*The inspection itself will be free, but we’ll still charge a callout fee.
You transfer your caravan’s registration to a new owner.
You transfer your caravan’s registration from another state to Queensland.
Getting your caravan certified is as simple as it looks.
Please make sure your vehicle is in a reasonably clean condition so our examiner can conduct a proper inspection.

Here’s what our examiners check your caravan for.
Once we’ve finished a visual inspection, we’ll issue an on-the-spot report and, if your vehicle passes, a safety certificate.
Your caravan doesn’t need to be road-tested.
If you do have a gas system, you’ll probably need a gas compliance certificate too – so let our team know when you book your inspection.
Selling a caravan like a Crossroads Cruiser or a Cedar Creek with an ATM of over 4.5 tonnes?
You need a certificate of inspection (COI), not a safety certificate.
Unlike safety certificates, COIs last for 12 months and aren’t a ‘one-transfer-only’ document.
Here’s a list of what our approved examiners will check your caravan for.

If you’re selling a caravan under 750 kilograms ATM, you don’t need a safety certificate.
Instead, complete a vehicle details inspection sheet or provide your caravan’s details during registration.
Be aware: ATM is not your caravan’s unladen weight.
It’s the total mass of your caravan when carrying the maximum load recommended by the manufacturer.
Most caravans have ATMs of more than 750 kilograms, so you probably will need a safety certificate.

Moving to Queensland from another state?
You’ll need a safety certificate for your caravan to be registered in the Sunshine State.
And, with our mobile inspection service, you can get yours wherever you live or work.
A safety certificate is a document that proves your caravan has been assessed as roadworthy by an approved examiner. You normally need a certificate to transfer or re-register your vehicle.
Safety certificates can be digital or handwritten. Each one includes:
All certificates are lodged with the Department of Main Roads and Transport. Safety certificates don’t need to be displayed anymore, even if they’re handwritten (although some examiners may still have outdated blue safety certificates that mention a display requirement).
You can sell a caravan in Queensland without a safety certificate – but only in 2 scenarios. If your vehicle isn’t registered, you don’t need a safety certificate to sell it (although the buyer will need one if they want to tow it on the road). You also don’t need a safety certificate to sell your vehicle to a licensed motor dealer.
Just transferring instead of selling? You’ll still need a safety certificate, except if you’re:
For anyone who isn’t a licensed motor dealer, safety certificates are valid for 2 months or 2,000 kilometres (whichever expires first) from the date of issue.
You can use the same safety certificate to register a caravan and then sell/transfer it, but you can’t use the same safety certificate for more than one sale/transfer. Each new transfer needs a new safety certificate.
If your caravan has a gas system installed, you’ll need a gas compliance certificate before transferring your caravan to a new owner. For second-hand caravans, that certificate must be less than 3 months old.
Most approved examiners aren’t qualified to provide gas compliance certificates – look for someone with a gas work licence (servicing and caravan certification). If you want your caravan’s gas system certified, make sure you mention it when you’re booking your inspection so we can pair you with one of our licence-holding examiners.
Gold Coast caravan safety certificates typically cost $100–$150. Prices can vary based on the weight class of the caravan and the AIS. If you want a gas system compliance certificate as well, you can generally expect to pay an extra $165 or more – gas systems are complex and require specialised technicians to inspect them.
